To a majority of people, selling all of your belongings, and quitting your well-paid job to travel, still seems far-fetched.
Many people still believe in the traditional life - school, climbing the corporate ladder, getting married, buying a home, and starting a family.
However, that is not what either of us desire for our future. We have gone against the grain,
and followed our hearts and chased our dreams to travel the world!

We were just your average mid-20's couple. We both had secure, and well paid jobs with benefits, we had a rental place that we loved, and we had a fancy new F-150 with all the bells & whistles.
Together, we have a big family, and an amazing group of friends, that is basically our extended family. However, we felt like something was missing from our lives.

Even though we both had high paying jobs, we still worked pay check to pay check because the cost of living in Vancouver is very extreme - It is one of the most expensive cities in North America.
Monday to Friday was always the same, waiting to live for the weekend. Then came the weekends, you'd find us exploring and enjoying our own province - ATVing, biking, camping, paddling, and partying with our friends. Don't get us wrong, it's what we love to do, however, we just longed for more!

As employees in Canada, you're unfortunately only entitled to 10 vacation days per calendar year. So you'd only have the weekends, long weekends, and those 10 vacation days to look forward to throughout the year. Unless of course, you really loved your job. Which at the time, we didn't - it was just a job to pay the bills.
In the years leading up to our big leap, we would split up our vacation days, and travel close to home - Vegas and Mexico. We traveled there quite a bit, and also took mini weekend getaways to Whistler, Tofino, and Seattle, also close to home.

After we got married, that was when we left North America for the first time. We went to London & Paris for our honeymoon - 5 days in each city, which of course, was not enough time, but again, that's all we were allowed to take.
The following year we went to Thailand with a couple of our best friends. Little did we know at the time, that trip was the trip that changed our lives.
We scheduled the trip around a long weekend, especially because we'd lose 2 days from traveling to and from. We had a jam packed, super go-go-go vacation, where we crammed 4 cities into 2 weeks. But of course, that wasn't nearly enough time. That was when we had our first taste of backpacking, and that just left us hungrier for more!
It was that trip, it was Thailand, that left us so culture shocked, and instantly bit by the travel bug. We were addicted to experiencing new cultures, new foods, and meeting new people. We felt our minds and hearts open up during our trip to Thailand and we couldn't help but crave more.

Unfortunately, we had to get back to our dead end jobs, and wait another year until we could travel like that again. It wasn't long before we started feeling daily 'Monday/Winter Blues'. It was super agonizing for us to just work to live for the weekends. We so badly wanted to be happy every single day, not just on the weekends.
It wasn't only our jobs we were fed up with, it was Vancouver's gloomy, cold, dark and wet winters. The colder it got, it began to get darker earlier, and we could no longer do the activities we loved, like, ATVing, biking, camping, or paddling.
Not just that, but we were also fed up with the same party every single weekend, would be a different celebration or birthday, but the same old party.

We began to watch travel vloggers on YouTube, and we couldn't help but want that life so badly. We wanted to sell all of our sh*t, quit our dead end jobs, leave the Vancouver winters behind, and travel full-time, not just the allocated 10 days a year.
We didn't have the burning desire to climb the corporate ladder, buy a house, or have children - our burning desire was to see the world - different cultures, experience new things, try new foods, and making new friends. We had our youth, and nothing to lose. We wanted to travel while we're young and able, because money always returns, and time does not. We didn't want to have any regrets when we were older, which we both would have if we didn't do this.

The decision was made. We were going to do it, take that leap! Then, the best days were ahead of us - planning, saving, prepping, quitting our jobs and selling our sh*t to chase our dreams! Our heart and souls yearned so bad for a life more meaningful and memorable!
