Our Trip
We traveled for 1 year to 9 countries and 65 cities. We saw Wonders of the World, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and countless Temples. We crawled through craves and jumped off cliffs in the Philippines, we white water rafted in Indonesia, and we attended the Half Moon Festival in Thailand. We watched the sunrise at Angkor Wat, and learned about the genocide at S21 Prison in Cambodia. We kayaked in Ha Long Bay and learned about the Vietnam War at the Cu Chi Tunnels in Vietnam. We discovered our favourite waterfall in Laos, swam at some of the best beaches in SE Asia, in Sri Lanka. And we celebrated Holi Festival with our favourite YouTubers Kinging-It, at a 5 star resort, in India.
Our Spending Habits
We're what you'd call, 'budget backpackers' - we are quite frugal, and don't spend money on unnecessary things. However, we did splurge a few times on our accommodations, as well as food, when we were either ill, or felt homesick, which helped with recharging our batteries. But, our daily budget was about $75CAD/$55USD between the two of us.
Accommodations
We traveled to 9 countries, and stayed in a wide range of accommodations, from sh*tty hostels, to our own little private bungalows.
Our nightly budget was $20CAD/$15USD/night - It's crazy to see what you can get for only $20CAD/night around SE Asia.
With Booking, you can choose your price range, and sort by price, from lowest to highest, which is what we always do when searching for cheap accommodations.

food
Street food, street food, street food. That's exactly what we lived off of for the entire year. This will be best option for your wallet and your taste buds!
We'd only pay for about 2 meals per person, per day, as we'd always book a hostel that had free breakfast included, which is also an option you can choose on Booking.
Another option, if cheap enough, is to cook one meal in the shared kitchen at the hostel as well.

Transportation
Local public transportation - because we have more time than money we always took the longer, and less comfortable option. This will always be the cheapest option to choose between getting to and from each destination.
We recommend using Rome2Rio for researching your transport routes - mode of transport, length, time, and directions are all included.

We are just trying to showcase that traveling does not cost an arm and a leg.
We were able to experience so much with that budget - so if we can do it, so can you!
