How to Extend
Your Visa
in Indonesia

Visas and visa extensions are such a headache!
Luckily for you though, we've written this guide on how to extend your stay in Indonesia to help ease your pain.

Disclaimer:  We are by no means immigration experts -
we are just travelers who are sharing what we've learned during our experience.
Picture

what you need

  • Passport
  • Photocopy of Passport
  • Printed Out Exit Flight
  • Hotel Information - Name, Address, Phone Number,  E-Mail Address
  • Black Ink Pen

Tip: If you do not have access to a printer, do not fret - there is a photocopy/printer shop right beside the offices.

what to wear

Be respectful - always cover your shoulders and knees while at an Immigration Office. Do not wear tank tops, short-shorts, bikinis, or open toed shoes. If you dress inappropriately security might not allow you to enter.

locations

There are a few locations in Bali you can do this at:
Ngurah Rai Immigration Office
Immigration Office Class
Singaraja Class Immigration Office

Tip: Staff go on a one-hour lunch break from 12:00pm-1:00pm.

Process

Upon arriving at the airport, head to the ‘Visa on Arrival’ counter - you must purchase your 30 day visa before going through immigration - this costs 350,000IDR. If you do not do this, then you will not be able to extend your visa later on. Then, before your 30 days is up, you must go to one of the three immigration offices in Bali. This process will take three visits to the office. Save about 10 business days for this process, which means you'll have to be staying semi-near the office during this time.

1st Visit - The Application

Upon arrival you must take a number from the kiosk, then you'll receive a folder, and an application form. Make sure you fill out the form in a black ink pen, and write in all capitals. You must also have your printed out exit flight, and a photocopy of your passport. Then, you must wait for your number to be called. Once your number is called you'll bring up the mentioned above numbers, and they'll hand you a receipt with a date on it, typically 2-3 business days later. That is when you have to come back to the same office, for your second visit.

Duration: 2-4 Hours Approx.

Tip: Don't worry if you don't have your passport copied, or your exit flight itinerary printed - there are photocopy and printer stores right next to the offices.

2nd visit - photo & fingerprints

The second visit is to have your photo and fingerprints taken. Upon arrival you'll need to grab  number - once called, you'll head into a separate room to get your photo and fingerprints taken. Then you'll be handed another receipt with another date on it, about 2-3 business days later. Afterwards, you must go to an Indonesia bank to pay the fee, which is an additional 500,000IDR. You can do this at BCI, BRI, or Mandiri - The bank staff members will be able to assist you. Once paid, you will receive a receipt - keep this until your next visit at the office.

Duration:
 1-2 Hours Approx.

3rd visit - pick up your passport

On your third visit you will need to take another number, once called, you will have to provide proof of payment with the receipt from the bank, then you will receive your stamped passport, and can stay longer in Indonesia, yay!

Duration: 30 Minutes-1 Hour Approx.

total cost

850,000IDR/$79.10CAD/$57.10USD
