So, what are The Global Snowbirds all about?
The Birth
We've always been fascinated with traveling, even before we started traveling full-time. Our first trip together was to Las Vegas when we both became the legal drinking age in the US (classic, we know). From then on, we were hooked! We went back to Vegas countless of times, as well as to Mexico - Both are quick flights from Vancouver BC, which is where we're from. After that, we went to England and Paris for our honeymoon. Then in 2017, we went to Thailand with our best friends. However, it wasn't until Thailand, that we experienced true culture shock. To say that we got bit by the travel bug sounds so cliché, but it's absolutely true!
After Thailand, we started watching travel vloggers on YouTube - Our favourites are, Eamon & Bec, Expedition Overland, Karl Watson, Kingin' It, Lost LeBlanc, Paddy Doyle, Steve Yalo, The Budgeteers, The Endless Adventure, The Nomadic Movement, Vancity Vanlife, and Yes Theory. It was all thanks to YouTube and the travel vloggers that we watched, that we learned about full-time travel, vanlife, and overlanding. They sparked our interest to travel full-time - to quit our 9-5's, and to sell all of our belongings to travel the world!
After about a year of contemplating traveling full-time, and half convincing Justin to do so, we finally made the big decision to just go for it! We thought to ourselves, we don't have kids, we haven't bought a house, now is the perfect opportunity while we're young and able. Money always returns, but time does not.
It took us a little under a year and a half to get sorted - planning, researching, saving, and selling our belongings, before we jet set off on our one way ticket to Bali, to start our new life! We left on May 29th 2018, and have been nomadic snowbirds since!
On our previous vacations, we always made a travel montage video of each trip, even the small weekend getaways to Whistler or Seattle. We filmed on our wannabe GoPro, the Contour Roam 2, which I (Meagan) gifted Justin for his birthday. We created the montage videos simply for fun - for ourselves, friends and family. However, because we both truly enjoyed creating the videos, we decided we wanted to start a YouTube Channel, and document our journey of quitting our jobs, and traveling full-time.
We then had to figure out a name for ourselves, our channel, and our website. Even though we're both Canadians, we still hate the cold and snow, and as we were telling our friends and family about our plans, they started calling us snowbirds. A 'Snowbird' is a North American term, which means, "A northerner who travels to warmer climates during the winter months". That is exactly what we were planning to do - Leave Vancouver in the winter to tropical destinations, and then return home in the summer, so that's when, 'The Global Snowbirds' were born!

Our Mission
Our main purpose and goal with our channel is to inspire others to travel the world. To show others that there is more to life than climbing the corporate ladder, and following societies 'rules'. We showcase that it does not require a lot of money to travel - We include pricing of each accommodation, the transportation we take, the food we eat, the beer we drink, and the activities we do. We are trying to prove to people that it is possible to travel on a budget, even while seeing wonders of the world!
Our Roles within The Global Snowbirds
Justin does a majority of the filming and all of the editing for our YouTube Channel.
While Justin edits the vlogs, Meagan does the rest - Planning and researching, making the bookings, editing photos, then posting them to our Instagram & Facebook. She also takes care of the YouTube thumbnails, descriptions, creating and managing our merchandise store, and of course, the website you're on now.
Neither of us have gone to school for what we do - It's all been self taught, and through experience which we're both quite proud of.
